This result bears witness to the high quality of living which the district town offers its inhabitants. The location in the countryside, the good infrastructure and the wide range of recreation possibilities are reasons why the people in Soest feel "at home". Another reason is that you can simply live well in Soest. The historical town centre with its maze of alleyways, the well-tended parks and the attractive houses, which testify to the wealth of the former Hanse town, offer a unique flair of living.

The distances are short and you can also reach all the important points in the town centre in a very short  time without a car. And you do not have to do without your own greenery. Hardly any of the houses inside the town walls do not have their own garden, conservatory or balcony.
Or are you one of those people who want "a bit more space"? The newly developed areas "Am Ardey" or the LEG area near the town centre offer space for your own dream home. Whether a rented flat or a single-family house, Soest certainly offers you the right property. Art and culture in Soest

Soest has always been an attraction for artists. The copper engraver Heinrich Aldegrever, the painter Conrad von Soest and later Emil Nolde and Otto Modersohn - to mention but a few - found the peace and quiet here to concentrate entirely on their works. It is therefore no coincidence that the town has a wealth of works of art to offer. Soest was an inspiration in the past and still inspires today. Once you have enjoyed the famous view from the source of the "Großer Teich" over the windmill and the "Wiesen" church, you will understand why this motif has always fascinated artists again and again.

The great influence of the town and its very special atmosphere is also reflected in church art. For example, the famous window in the "St. Maria zur Wiese" church shows the Last Supper with Jesus and his disciples enjoying typical Westphalian beer, ham and pumpernickel. And a painting on the south gate of the Petri church shows the Judgement Day against the silhouette of the Soest towers. For those interested in art a visit to the Morgner House  and the small but impressive cathedral museum are well worth visiting. The home of the versatile pedagogue Hugo Kükelhaus is of interest to everyone. Here, you can "grasp" art in the truest sense of the word and experience it with all your senses. Only a stone's throw away, the town's history comes to life. The Osthofentor museum accommodates the remaining items of the town's armaments chamber with an imposing stock of ammunition comprising roughly 25,000 crossbow arrows. And in the Burghof museum you have the opportunity not only to learn something about the town's history but you can also follow in the footsteps of Heinrich Aldegrever, after making an appointment, and make a copper engraving yourself. The Soest painting school and the town's schools of music and ballet promote the very young and ensure that the town will never run out of artists.

Over the last decade Soest has worked its way up to become a cultural stronghold in the region. The stages of the Bürgerzentrum "Alter Schlachthof" and the neighbouring  town hall are in the epicentre of cabaret. Musicians, actors and actresses or comedy stars of national and international fame are drawn just as much to the cabaret metropolis of Soest as talented young newcomers.
