Soest offers the following location benefits for supra-regional companies:

Owing to the central location within the district of Soest the town of Soest also offers location benefits to all companies with a regional supply area
Traffic infrastructure
Soest can also be easily reached by business travellers using the Dortmund and Paderborn airports (each 40 km away).
Thanks to the direct situation on t he A 44 motorway (Dortmund - Kassel), Soest is linked to the supra-regional motorway network and the B 475 is a well developed connection to the A 2 motorway in the direction of Hanover.
Soest is an ICE stop and there is a city train connection to Dortmund every 30 minutes.
The South Westphalian University of Applied Sciences (HTWS) - South Westphalian Technical College offers courses in agricultural economics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and engineering and project management. There is also an international master course (Master of Science) in electronic systems and engineering management.
At present, some 1,500 students are studying in Soest and the long-term.
Technology transfer
The following action has been taken to promote technology transfer and co-operation with the local companies:
Establishment of the Institute for Technology and Knowledge Transfer at the university of Paderborn with its headquarters in Soest (1991)
"Soest model". Co-operation between the university and, at present, some 11 companies from t he region (also including the Soest companies Alcoa and Thyssen), in which studying at the university is combined with a training phase at the companies involved in the scheme.
The CIC and the Chamber of Handicrafts offer a varied range of consultancy for local enterprises, also including the issues of technology transfer.

Within the district of Soest most of the vocational and further training facilities (vocational training schools, educational institutions) are located in the town of Soest, for example :
